World Art Nouveau Day:

World Art Nouveau Day (WAND) has been celebrated annually on the tenth of June since 2013, when it was organized for the first time by the Museum of Applied Arts (IMM) in Budapest together with Szecessziós, a Hungarian Art Nouveau Magazine. June 10 it the date when two famous Art Nouveau architects died: Catalan Antoni Gaudí and Hungarian Ödön Lechner. Several European cities are celebrating Art Nouveau in a number of events seeking to raise awareness among the public about Art Nouveau architecture and the people that designed it. Some of the events have been organized by the Art Nouveau European Route and the Réseau Art Nouveau Network (RANN). A number of exhibitions, guided tours, video presentations, lectures and other cultural events, along with a photography competition and media interviews on radio and television have taken place over the years since World Art Nouveau Day celebrations began.

In 2022, Bratislava will take part in the celebrations of World Art Nouveau Days for the second time as a part of the activities within the international Art Nouveau 2 project, supported by the Danube Transnational Program. The Slovak partner of the project is the Faculty of Architecture and Design STU in Bratislava, which has prepared on this occasion again a free thematic guided tour of the city for the general public on the topic “Art Nouveau in Bratislava” in cooperation with the Bratislava Tourist Board. The guided walk is aimed at the general public interested to discover the architectural gems of the Art Nouveau in Bratislava, which – at that time called Pressburg or Pozsony – was influenced by the currents of the Viennese and Budapest Art Nouveau. The guided walk will cover several buildings in the historic centre of the city and its close proximity, many of which are characterized by ornaments and sculptures of plant and animal motifs, often combined with historical elements. Among the selected buildings are residential houses, public buildings, schools and a church.
